Schools often focus on formulas and procedures rather than teaching students to think creatively about solving complex problems. We want to see girls preparing for their futures by offering real, useful math that can be applied in all walks of life.

No facts and formulas here!

We're all about problem-solving, sharing ideas, and having fun.

Girls' Votes Count

With the Presidential election coming up, this is a great teachable moment to see math in action! We'll discuss the math involved in the election process including how the electoral college is formed and how different voting methods effect the outcome of an election. Girls will make conjectures about real data including gallop polls and census data, discuss and analyze polling and the election process, and learn how their vote and their voice can make a difference in the world.

Common core connections: statistical variability (mean, median, and mode), percents, and ratios.

Urban Planning

Take on the job of an urban planner by designing your dream city which meets the needs of your residents. What does your city look like? What does it need to provide? How many people can it house? We will draw out maps and blueprints, develop 3-D models of buildings, and consider how our city and its residents will make money.

Common core connections: constructing and describing geometrical figures, angle measure, area and volume.

Tuesdays, 1pm-2pm PDT

Nov 3rd, Nov 10th, Nov 17th & Nov 24th

About our workshops:

* Classes are designed for girls aged 11-14 (sorry, no exceptions).

Research has shown that this is a crucial age when girls start to lose interest in mathematics as they

start getting influenced by their peers and making decisions about who they are.

* All classes run for 4 sessions and are fully online.

* Sessions are offered twice and repeat. Pick one session that works best for you.

* Enrollment is capped at 12 girls.

* $65 per participant.

Scaled enrollment and scholarships are available for those that qualify.
